Our family and staff thank you for coming out for the Reds, Whites & BBQ Fest earlier this month - Mother Nature was mostly on our side for this fun 2-day event and if you missed it we had some amazing fireworks (take a look at the photos)!

News from the Round Barn Winery

Congrats to our Limerick Contest Winner!

Larry Webster won a $50 gift certificate for his submission.
Take a read at the winning poem:
I open a bottle of Round Barn's Cocoa Stout,
As the liquid pours, I begin to pout.
I set down my glass,
The head settles, alas,
I now can enjoy, what the fuss is about.

Wine 101 - This month's featured wines

Vineyard Tears

After a trip to the Alsace region of France, we developed a blended wine of German grape varieties that we finished in the dry Alsatian style. The result is a wonderful floral wine with crisp acidity and a smooth finish that is perfect for those summer afternoons. After a triumphant first release (written up by the Wall Street Journal), we follow it up with an Alsatian masterpiece, full of layers of spice and fruit. This blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Riesling and Müller-Thurgau is sure to be a crowd pleaser.

Winemaker's Notes: A rich and complex blend of our most aromatic varieties, you will find a fresh-fruit core of peaches, pears with slight mineral characteristic on the mouth feel. A pleasantly smooth and clean finish caps off this spectacular blend.

Food Pairings: An excellent choice for pasta primavera, vegetarian dishes, light chicken dishes and mild fish. View recipes paired with Vineyard Tears.

Cabernet Sauvignon - American

King of the reds, Cabernet Sauvignon is the principal component of the great red wines of Bordeaux. Packed with complex flavor, a fine Cabernet Sauvignon is full-bodied, rich, and full of black currant, dark berry, cherry, cedar and tobacco aroma and flavors. The tannins that can make the wine tough to drink in its youth also make it a prime candidate for long aging.

Winemaker's Notes: Full Bodied and firm in texture with smooth, ripe tannins, this wine shows concentrated blackberry, black cherry and currant aromas. Well balanced, with integrated oak and tannin. Juicy ripe cherry and berry flavors finish with a hint of chocolate on the finish.

Food Pairings: Cabernet Sauvignon is a classic match for rich stews and red meat dishes. It also pairs well with flavorful pastas, mushroom dishes and even savory white meats. View recipes paired with Cabernet Sauvignon - American.

From the Cellar

In the vineyard...

we are "through bloom" which is when the grapevines flower. An interesting note for you... grapevines are self-pollinating. Everything else is looking good for a vintage year - just keeping our fingers crossed that ole mother nature gives us some hot weather and no more rain.

In the wine cellar...

we are putting the finishing touches on the '07 reds and there are some really nice wines to look forward to. The '07 Merlot seems to be my favorite, but there wasn't a bad wine tasted. I know...it's a tough job we have!

In the brewery...

we are running at maximum capacity and feverishly trying to keep up with everyone's thirst for our beer! If you haven't had a chance to try the Peach Fuzz, come on out before it's gone. It's a great wheat beer with just the right amount of peach added in. (FYI it's only available at our Baroda location.) Also, look for the Oaked IPA to be released any day now!

We hope everyone is having a great summer and we look forward to seeing everyone at the Harvest Party!

Cheers,
Matt, Jason, Jim and Issac
