Noir Nouveau is Here

The first member of the 2009 fall harvest is now available. Our version of the famed Beaujolais wine is Noir Nouveau. It's an off dry red with plenty of fresh red fruit that makes a wonderful drinking red. This style of red wine was developed by the French so that they had something to drink while their more full bodied reds were aged in oak. Waiting is of course the hardest part!

Brewery Research and Development

We've often joked that the hardest part of the job is the sampling - i.e. drinking involved in creating new products. Guys (and Gals!), this is your chance to become a member of the Round Barn Brewery R&D team! Update Your Preferences and add yourself to the Brewery R&D Team. Once we finalize the dates, you will receive an email inviting you to sample and give feedback on the next generation of beer that we are developing. The first sample flights will be in January so Update Your Preferences today to be included!

Tis' the Season to Sparkle!

As we head full tilt into the holiday season, most of us are busying ourselves with shopping, cooking and entertaining-or being entertained. Christmas and New Years are a time of great celebration and we tend to imbibe in special wines, namely sparkling wines - also known as champagne. (Only sparkling wine made in the Champagne region of France can be called champagne). While America is the largest consumer of wine we have a relatively low consumption rate of sparkling wines. In accordance, we'd like to introduce you to a few of our favorite sparkling cocktails that include this maligned wine.

Wine 101 - This month's featured wines

Artesia Spumante

Spumante is an Italian term meaning "foaming" or "sparkling" and as applied to wine, it is typically sweet to very sweet. Our Spumante is characteristic of the Gran Spumante, which is produced by the traditional French method of fermenting in the bottle.

Made with the traditional Methode Champenoise procedure this semidry sparkling wine is held in tirage for less than a year creating softness, without the creamy or toasted characteristics that come from extended yeast contact.

Winemaker's Notes: Bright, fresh and softly sweet this wine is a perfect example of a Spumante that is not overly sweet. A wonderful aperitif or dessert wine, with hints of apricot and vanilla.

Food Pairings: Pair with chocolate or slices of fresh fruit, strawberries. View recipes paired with Artesia Spumante.

Noir Nouveau - Lake Michigan Shore

Noir Nouveau owes its easy drinkability to a winemaking process called carbonic maceration, also called whole berry fermentation. This technique preserves the fresh, fruity quality of the wine, without extracting bitter tannins from the grape skins.

Beaujolais-style wines are typically fermented, spared from aging, and consumed young to appreciate their fresh, fruity qualities, with more tang than tannin. Noir Nouveau is a fruity, easy-drinking red meant to be drunk within a year of its harvest.

Winemaker's Notes: Serve Noir Nouveau slightly cool, at about 55 degrees Fahrenheit - the wine is more refreshing and its forward fruit more apparent than if you serve it at room temperature. Look for cherry, strawberry and other red fruits.

Food Pairings: As an aperitif or with lighter fare such as picnics and salads. View recipes paired with Noir Nouveau - Lake Michigan Shore.
