From the Cellar!

Vineyard & Cellar Happenings
  • This time of year you can find us in the wine cellar working on cold stability which is the process of letting the natural cold temperatures drop out the excess tartrates in the wine. This is an important step and without it your wine would look like a snow globe when put into the refrigerator. We then filter the wine and it is one step closer to being put it in the bottle.
  • All of our reds have been put to bed in the barrel and will remain there until the summer of 2013.
  • There is lots of distilling going on. In fact, we're conducting vodka distillations every day that we're not brewing beer ensuring there will be enough to go around for the popular slushies' this summer!
  • Things are quiet in the vineyard until the end of February when we'll begin trimming the grapes.

Brewery News
  • We are excited to announce that we are moving our production of beer to a new facility in Downtown Baroda. We will continue to offer our great brews at both of our locations (Baroda & Union Pier) and we are currently stocking up so that there will be as little downtime as possible as we transition into our new facility. The demand for not only our craft brews but our wine has made this a necessary step to be able to keep up. In the next 18 months we would like to open a small pub at this new location as well. We'll keep you posted.
  • West Highland is back. Our Wee Heavy Scotch Ale is now available at both locations but get it soon - it's seasonal and is available by draft and growler only.
  • Round Barn brews into the New Year! Take a peek at the ABC 57 news clip.

Round Barn Brewery Beers On Tap

WEST HIGHLAND SCOTCH ALE

Crafted with a blend of British malts and hops the West Highland is a smooth, full bodied brew that boasts a bold caramel backbone with subtle hints of hardwood smoke and coffee. The dark sugar flavors, light carbonation and warming alcohol content makes this beer a perfect choice for the colder months. Enjoy on its own or with a savory bowl of stew or spiral cut ham. Best served a bit on the warm side. (ABV 7.50%)

Fun Facts

Wine & Health Facts
  • Many studies have found an association between the moderate consumption of alcohol and increased longevity, and some have found evidence that wine has a more beneficial effect than other alcoholic drinks. Now an analysis in the January issue of The Journal of Studies on Alcohol and Drugs suggests that martinis and beer may be just as effective at extending life.

  • Researchers at the University of California, Davis tested a variety of wines to determine which ones had the highest amount of polyphenolic compounds (which act as an antioxidant). Results of the tests indicate that Cabernet Sauvignon was at the top of the list with Syrah and Pinot Noir close behind.

  • Red wine has more health benefits than white simply due to the fact that the grape skins are left on during the fermentation process. The skins and seeds of the grapes actually have the most nutritional value. Since the skins are removed during the white wine making process, white wines do not have as strong of health benefits.

  • Red wine is filled with antioxidants, which can help to increase levels of good cholesterol and prevent artery damage.

  • Did you know wine is a fat-free and cholesterol-free beverage?

President Facts in honor of President's Day
  • George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, and Thomas Jefferson all enjoyed brewing or distilling their own alcoholic beverages

  • Abraham Lincoln held a liquor license and operated several taverns

  • Thomas Jefferson helped stock the wine cellars of the first five U.S. presidents and was very partial to find Bordeaux and Madeira
