Riesling - Lake Michigan Shore (pronounced REES-ling) -
Riesling is one of the world's greatest wine grapes. When properly grown, it has great flavor intensity with a wide range of flavors and a wonderfully rich and complex nose.
The Riesling grape is believed to be indigenous to Germany, and has been planted there since the fourteenth century. Riesling is also widely grown in the Alsace region of France, in
Austria, Canada, USA, Australia and New Zealand. Riesling is a late-ripening grape, and only has a moderate yield. This makes it difficult to grow, and often the price reflects this.
Winemaker's Notes: This is one of our most consistent wines, the vines were brought in from a research station on the Rhine river over twenty years ago.
The maturity of the vines shows in the wine they produce with extremely vibrant and rich characteristics on both the palate and the nose. Fermented and aged in stainless steel to preserve the
freshness of the fruit character.
The Round Barn Winery Riesling has aromas of papaya and mango on the nose and intense notes of ripe green apple and pear on the palate.
Crisp acidity and a soft sweetness combine for a clean refreshing finish.
Food Pairings: Riesling is very versatile and pairs well with appetizers, cheeses, pork, seafood, turkey, chicken, salads, white sauce pasta dishes, vegetarian & asian cuisine and fresh fruit. |
Red Demi Sec
is a semi dry red table wine and is the red version of our most popular wine (Demi Sec), we created this blend as a "gateway" to the dry red wines.
Similar to Lambrusco but with less sweetness and more body, making it perfect for new red wine drinkers. It may be served chilled to bring out the fruit flavors.
Winemaker's Notes: A 50% blend of Chambourcin and 50% Marechal Foch, this wine is low in tannins, aged in stainless steel and has no oak to create a straight forward semi-dry red wine.
Dark ruby in color, this wine has plenty of red berry fruit up front with jammy cherry aromas. Slightly sweet, it finishes with a smooth fruity aftertaste. It is an easy wine for any occasion.
Food Pairings: This versatile table wine wine pairs well with typical red wine food such as red meats and pastas. |

In the vineyard... we have started to spot some buds pushing out but not much going on at this point. We are keeping our fingers crossed that the vines didn't
suffer too much winter damage over the last few months and we're looking forward to another great year.
In the cellar... we are putting the finishing touches on the Peach Demi Sec which will be available for our May 23rd Memorial Day Weekend Open House.
Look for our newest batch of Sangria to hit our festivals this summer along with a few select restaurants. It's even better than last year, if you can believe that!
In the brewery... we are bottling Kölsch right now and plan on doing more of the Summer Wheat and Amber Ale next because it seems no one can keep it on their shelves!
In the distillery... we are working on the 2nd release of the RCMS Michigan Brandy. A little trivia for you... RCMS stands for Rick, Chris, Matt and Sherrie. It is now 8 years old and drinks amazingly smooth! Stay tuned for the release date.
Cheers for now,
Matthew, Scott, Jason, and Jim

Which is healthier for you, red or white wines?
The jury is still out on some of the health benefits of moderate wine consumption, but red wine does seem to have a slight edge. It received a lot of attention for its purported benefits in the late 70s, when a book called The French Paradox suggested that red wine helped the French avoid the cholesterol problems that should have gone along with their fat-heavy diet.
Studies since report that an antioxidant called resveratrol is responsible. Resveratrol, like tannins and color, comes from the skins of the grapes; since white wines are pressed before fermentation, they generally have little or no resveratrol (Red wines are macerated with the skins to get the color, tannins, and flavors the skins impart).
However, more recent studies suggest that moderate consumption of any wine, red or white, can contribute to lower incidents of heart disease and several other ailments. Research continues, but for now, let's be glad we can actually enjoy something that's also good for us.
Are the new stemless glasses good to use?
Ah, yes. Riedel's new “O” Glasses. They're not going to replace traditional stemware, but they can be very handy. First of all, the low center of gravity cuts down on spills and breakage. They also look great, and are made in several shapes to suit different varietals, just like their big brothers. They're also stackable, so they save on space. All of this means they're great for small apartments or other situations where you're not drinking at the dinner table.
Two complaints come up: fingerprints on the bowl, and that the touch of your hand will warm up your wine. If you cup your hand around the bowl and never put the glass down, the latter might be a problem, but most of us use our fingers, and put the glass down between sips. As for fingerprints - when you're unwinding at home in front of the TV with a nice glass of wine, do they really matter that much?
